My first Sichuan peppers are ripening. I only have a few this year, but I'm guessing next year the plant will be covered with fruit.
Blackberries are now officially ripening faster than we can harvest them! Which is totally fine because we grow extra to feed birds and other wildlife.
Woodford is molting. It's a painless process. But Woody always feels a little insecure before his new feathers come in. I have to give him extra love... And extra protein to keep him happy and healthy.
I finished harvesting my hardneck garlic. They were about a week later than normal.
Wonder why you have so many weeds in summer?
Google told me I was running low on space. So I started reviewing old photos to delete those I don't need.
Fruit follow-up!
Harvesting ancient spices like coriander fruit pods (each pod contains two seeds) is a potent experience. As I cut and stack stems in my basket, I revel in the varied beauty of each pod.
Some people call this stunning, root-making, soil-improving, flowering plant a weed. I call it a spice and soil helper.
Some wonderful friends of ours (@airyonthemount) gave us a few native hazelnuts that had spread in their forest.
We planted a 1 foot Chinese Chestnut seedling from the Arbor Day Foundation 8 years ago. It had a slow start because the soil was poor at the beginning.

Have you ever had this experience?
Sometimes it's hard to see the dad who raised me in the dad I've taken care of for the last 6 years and 3 months since his stroke. His brain works so differently now and he's lost access to the lifetime of memories that made him who he was.
This lilac bloomed just over a month ago and now it's at it again with even more blooms this time!
Stormy skies over the potager garden and rain garden yesterday afternoon!
Here's another blueish beauty. This one is love in a mist. But I think this one may have cross pollinated with my nigella because it has a lot of similarities to that spice.
Unlike that lovely past prime blue hydrangea flower I posted earlier...
My mophead hydrangeas (Hydrangea macrophylla) are in bloom! The first few photos are Endless Summer cultivars. The deep blue flower color happens only in acidic soil.
Yesterday as the dogs and I were walking to let the chickens out, we stumbled upon this little deer in the middle of the path.
